Wilson County TN....Bradley Gillilan, a Freshman at Lebanon High School who trains with Excel Aquatics, turned in some blistering times in the Meet of Champions today in Brentwood TN. In the 200 Free, Bradley dropped 3.95 seconds to turn a 1:59.59, good enough for a 7th Place finish in the 13&14 Boys category. Luke Blackwell, also a Wilson County swimmer training with Excel, finished 13th in the same event, turning a 2:02.60, a 4.15 second drop. In the 100 Breaststroke, Gillilan turned a 1:11.58, finishing 9th in the event, dropping 4.62 seconds. Excel: Real Team, Real Results.

Wilson County TN....Lebanon High School Freshman, Bradley Gillilan, placed 2nd in the 13&14 Boy's 1000 Freestyle at today's Excel Aquatics Thoroughbred Meet. Bradley turned in a time of 11:05.92, dropping 2.44 seconds in the process. This is the fastest time for a Wilson County Resident since 1998. In other news, Wilson County resident and Excel Assistant Coach John Barnes had a 14 year old female swimmer he coaches drop 1.30 seconds and turn in a 1:02.35 in the 100 Fly. The same swimmer also dropped 2.69 seconds to turn a 2:18.74 in the 200 Back.

Wilson County TN....Lebanon High School Freshman, Bradley Gillilan, won the 13&14 Boy's 500 Freestyle at today's Excel Aquatics Thoroughbred Meet. Bradley turned in a time of 5:20.21, dropping 8.79 seconds in the process. This is the fastest time for a Wilson County Resident since 1999. In other news, Wilson County resident and Excel Assistant Coach John Barnes had a 14 year old female swimmer he coaches drop 1.94 seconds and turn in a 1:04.77 in the 100 Backstroke. The same swimmer is now within 1.27 seconds of a Senior Sectional Cut in the 200 Fly.

Wilson County TN....11 Wilson County residents (a slight majority of all WC swimmers on Excel) participated in the Swim-A-Thon held for Excel Aquatics in Gallatin last night. A record amount was raised by the swimmers training in Gallatin. 14 swimmers (7 WC swimmers) qualified to throw pies in the faces of the coaches.

Wilson County TN....Two Wilson County Residents started a recruiting visit to a college today, both swimmers train with Excel/Gallatin under the training regimen of Wilson County Resident & Excel Aquatics Assistant Coach John Barnes. They are following the lead of two other Excel/Gallatin swimmers who started this year on collegiate swim teams.

Wilson County TN....Practices are continuing for Excel swimmers from Wilson County in preparation for the Excel Fall Fest Meet at the end of the month. A record number of swimmers from Wilson County are making the drive to the closest facility that offers 6 practices per week. Two of the four coaches in Gallatin swam in college, with another one being a 3x National Champion in her home country of Romania. Quality.

Wilson County TN....Wilson County Residents Luke Blackwell, Madison Blackwell, and Taylor Wallace competed in this past weekends SES Long Course Championships for Excel Aquatics. Luke continued the streak of Excel Aquatics' Wilson County Residents who have placed in the Top 16 at SES Championship Level meets to 8 over the past 4 years, no other Swim Club has come close to that streak. Wilson County TN...Madison Blackwell qualified for the SES Long Course Meet in the 50 Meter Backstroke this morning while at a meet in Knoxville. This is Madison's first SES cut ever!!! Madison had great swims overall, and came within a fraction of a second to qualify in the 50 Meter Butterfly (this was the in the first time she swam the 50 Fly). With Madison qualifying for the SES Long Course Championship Meet in July, Excel Aquatics now has 6 Wilson County Residents qualified for the Long Course Meet. Among other swimmers from Wilson County at the meet, Bradley Gillilan qualified for SES in the 400 Meter IM, adding to his distance events he has qualified for. Bradley will be a Freshman at MJHS in the Fall, and trains under Coach Barnes.

Wilson County TN...After a 3 year layoff from Long Course swimming, Lebanon resident Amy Pouget returned to the pool in good form and swam a 30.11 in the 50 Meter Free at the Indiana University Cheeseburger in Paradise Invitational Friday. That was good enough for a SES Long Course Championship Meet cut for her age group.

Cages Bend is in Gallatin and is a member of the Nashville Swim League. At last count 10 swimmers from Wilson County are on the Cages Bend Summer Swim Team.

Wilson County TN...Excel Aquatics welcomes Lebanon Resident and JPII High School swimmer Amy Pouget. Last year as a Junior at JPII HS (training under Adam Towsley), Amy placed 16th in the 100 Yard Freestyle at the State High School Championships. As a Sophomore at Lebanon HS (training under Jaymie Reynolds), Amy placed 13th in the 50 Yard Freestyle at the State Championships. Amy is returning to year round training under the primary direction of her former coach, Lebanon Resident and Excel Assistant, John Barnes at Cages Bend in the afternoons, and in Brentwood TN a few mornings per week.

Wilson County TN...Congratulations go to 2 members of Excel Aquatics who are directed in their training by Lebanon Resident and Excel Assistant Coach John Barnes. Both are graduating swimmers who recently signed to swim for Division I colleges next year. Kyle Lee, a Junior National qualifier, has signed with the University of Alabama after turning down a Superintendent Appointment to the US Naval Academy, who were also heavily recruiting him. The University of Alabma is in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the toughest swimming conference in the Nation. Chelsa Messinger, a Sectional Qualifier, has signed with North Carolina State University. Chelsa was recruited and had offers from NCSU, Florida International, and Xavier University in Cincinnati. North Carolina State University is in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Both swimmers have been training under the primary direction of Coach Barnes since April of 2004.

On a side note, two of Coach Barnes' swimmers in the Girls 13&14 Category got their SES Long Course Cuts in the 100 Backstroke. Wilson County TN...Swimmers from Wilson County competed in Knoxville TN this weekend. Competing for Excel Aquatics were Luke Blackwell, Madison Blackwell, and Taylor Wallace. 15 SES Times were achieved by Luke and Taylor combined. Madison Blackwell competed in her first Long Course meet and swam extremely well.

Wilson County TN...Swimmers from Wilson County are in Knoxville TN this weekend. Among early performances 12 Year Old Luke Blackwell of Lebanon placed 3rd in the 400 Meter Freestyle, 6th in the 200 Meter Freestyle, 9th in the 50 Meter Breaststroke, and 11th in the 100 Meter Backstroke. Luke earned Southeastern Championships Qualifying times in all four of those events. Madison Blackwell, a 10 Year Old also of Lebanon placed 22nd in the 50 Meter Breaststroke, and 27th in the 50 Meter Backstroke. This is Madison's first Long Course Meet, and she placed in the middle of the age grouping in both events, an impressive performance!

Wilson County TN....USA Swimming has released the USA Swimming Virtual Club Championships. Excel Aquatics, a team which includes 16 Wilson County swimmers training at it's two training locations, has been ranked 94th in the Nation for the 2005-2006 Short Course Season. 7 of the 16 Excel swimmers from Wilson County were listed in the rankings for Excel Aquatics. A new “triathlon” focused store has opened in the Rivergate/Goodletsville area, “Acme Multi-Sports” at 900 Conference Drive, Suite # 13 (in the Music City Shopping Center next to Chef’s Market). We’ve been told that they have Speedo suits in Youth and Adult sizes. This new shop may be useful for those who need something in a timelier manner without the long drive to Brentwood, or having to wait for the next swim meet to buy something. Wilson County TN....In a Press Release on April 11th, 2006, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) announced 8 rule changes to High School swimming. The butterfly kick on the Breaststroke pullout is now allowed in High School Swimming. Other rule changes apply to eliminate false start recalls, and triangular meets. Wilson County TN....Excel Aquatics held their 23rd Annual Banquet this afternoon to celebrate the accomplishments of the swimmers throughout the 2005-2006 swimming year. Luke Blackwell of Lebanon won the Excel Award for the Silver I Group in Gallatin. The Excel Award is given to the swimmer that demonstrates a high level of sportsmanship, dedication, and maturity. Luke has been with Excel for less than a year, and to be honored in such a way speaks volumes about his efforts.

All 4 swimmers attend Pope John Paul II (JPII) High School in Hendersonville. Those named: Lebanon Residents - Stephen Claycomb (and Excel Aquatics Swimmer): All-Sumner County in 50 Free and 100 Free, Honorable Mention in 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay; and Amy Pouget: All Sumner County in 200 Free Relay and Honorable Mention in 100 Free and 200 Medley Relay. Mt. Juliet Residents - Morgan Flores: Honorable Mention in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay; and Rachel Voor: Honorable Mention in the 100 Backstroke. All 4 swimmers train under the supervision of JPII Head Coach (and Excel Assistant Coach) Adam Towsley.

Wilson County TN....The Excel Aquatics Long Course Meet Schedule has been announced. This Spring and Summer, Wilson County Resident Swimmers will be attending meets in Knoxville, TN; Brentwood, TN; Nashville, TN; Bloomington, Indiana; and Athens, Georgia. The meets in Knoxville, Bloomington, and Athens will mean exposure to major college pools and programs.

Wilson County TN....SES Short Course Championships wrapped up this evening, with Lebanon Resident Luke Blackwell leading the way with a Third Place finish in the 11&12 Year Old Boy's 1,000 Yard Freestyle. Finishing in a time of 11:35.39 - a drop of over 40 seconds from his entry time, and only 5.60 seconds away from the Qualifying Time for the 13&14 Year Old Category. Blackwell trains with Excel Aquatics.

Wilson County TN....In the First Night of action at the Southeastern Swimming Short Course Championships, 12 year old Luke Blackwell from Lebanon and representing Excel Aquatics placed 10th in the 11&12 Year Old Boy's 500 Yard Freestyle with a Personal Best Time of 5:42.15. Bradley Gillilan from Mt. Juliet, competing in the 13&14 Year Old Boy's 1000 Yard Freestyle finished 28th with a time of 11:10.71. Gillilan also represents Excel Aquatics.

Wilson County TN....Local Swimming Coach John Barnes was elected to the position of Vice-President of the Middle Tennessee High School Swim Association. MTHSSA is the local governing body for High School Swimming in the Mid-State Region. While Coach Barnes is no longer a High School coach, he has remained active in coaching a Year-Round club. Wilson County TN....Wilson County residents who now swim for Excel has reached the highest number it has been at in the past two years. Another recent registration today has brought the total number to 16, 5 of whom have qualified for the SES Short Course Championship - 4 more than NAC has, and 5 more than a local club. Wilson County TN....Resident Swimmers across Wilson County at schools both Public, Private, and Home School are preparing for the upcoming MTHSSA High School Regions Meet hosted by Excel Aquatics. The Meet is Friday February 10th at the Sportsplex in Nashville.

Wilson County TN....Three Wilson County residents, who also train with Excel Aquatics, attended the 2nd Annual Excel Middle School Invitational this morning. Placing in the Top 16 were Luke Blackwell (200Fr - 4th Place, 100Br - 6th Place); Alek Nochowicz (50Fr - 8th Place, 100Fr - 9th Place); and Austin Barnes (200Fr - 13th Place, 100BK - 10th Place). Blackwell continued his nice performances in the 200Free with Excel Aquatics, turning a 2:12.92.

Wilson County TN....At the Excel High School Invitational today, JPII (and Excel) Swimmer Stephen Claycomb finished 2nd in both the 50 Free and 100 Free. Brother Conrad Claycomb finished 19th in the 100 Back.

Wilson County TN....Middle School and High School age swimmers from across Wilson County are setting their sights on the Middle School Invitational Swim Meet and the High School Invitational Swim Meet, both hosted by Excel Aquatics, and being held in Brentwood on January 28th.

Wilson County TN....Two Wilson County Residents swimming for Excel Aquatics achieved qualifying standards for the Southeastern Swimming Short Course Championships to be held in March 2006. The time standards were met today at the Baylor Tyr Invitational. 12 Year old Luke Blackwell of Lebanon achieved his first cut, while 13 year old Bradley Gillilan of Mount Juliet added to his previous. Both swimmers train with former Romanian National Swimming Champion Andreea Ianoli-Mitrofan. Wilson County Resident and Excel Aquatics Assistant Coach John Barnes had two swimmers that he helps with, add to their total of qualifying times. Both girls, both in the 100 Back, with one doing a 1:05.64, a 2.5 second drop. Real Team, Real Results.

Possum Town TN....Heading into 2006, the future is bright for quality swimming opportunities for Wilson County residents. 2005 saw higher level of participation from Wilson County swimmers with Excel Aquatics, additional year-round swimmers entered High School in 2005, 5 Wilson County Home School students have joined Excel since May, record numbers of year-round male swimmers will be entering High School swimming in 2006, and 31 articles were published recognizing swimmers in Wilson County (more than any other entity in the county).
